Global Health Honorary Adviser (Voluntary)

Royal Australasian College of Surgeons

The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons is a non-profit organisation that is committed to leading surgical standards, professionalism and education across Australia and New Zealand. It has a proud history of facilitating the training of new surgeons, ensuring the support and development of existing surgeons and leading advocacy around standards and patient care.

As part of its role, the College facilitates medical education and clinical capacity development support in developing countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region through the RACS Global Health Program. The Global Health Program partners with national Ministries of Health and local partner hospitals and tertiary institutions to build national surgical and allied health capacity and improve surgical health outcomes for people in those nations and communities.

The College is now seeking experienced and passionate international development and/or public health practitioners to join a re-vitalised governance committee to strengthen the governance oversight of the College’s Global Health Program. These new Honorary Advisers will bring valuable international development and/or public health experience and expertise to the committee and support the development of well-informed strategy and decisions. Honorary Advisers will not vote on issues or make decisions, and instead will provide valuable expert advice and guidance.

The re-vitalised governance committees are currently confirming their meeting schedule and we anticipate that they will meet every 2 or 3 months for 2-3 hours, with some potential for minor activities outside of meetings.

A position description is attached.
