The Aboriginal Therapeutic Support worker will work to enhance therapeutic care for Aboriginal children and young people in foster and kinship care, as well as other Family Services programs through enhancing the capacity of care teams and staff to deliver trauma-informed therapeutic response to children and young people and families. The Aboriginal Therapeutic Support worker will also provide high quality assessment to help form the basis for a therapeutic care plan to Child Protection clients referred to MDAS that includes:

  • Facilitation of culturally appropriate healing programs; therapeutic leadership
  • Support to program staff, carers and members of each child’s therapeutic network
  • Secondary consultation concerning the mental health needs of the clients as required

This position will work with several Family Services programs across all MDAS sites including Mildura, Robinvale, Swan Hill and Kerang.

Responsibilities

  • Support values that respect historical and contemporary Aboriginal cultures so that Aboriginal people are recognised as having a special connection with the State.
  • Promote compliance with relevant legislation and MDAS policies.
  • Assist with and support any internal or external audit processes.
  • Contribute to policies and procedures, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Initiate quality activities within your department to demonstrate a genuine commitment to continuous improvement across MDAS.
