St Francis Social Services is a multi-faceted social services agency focussed on helping both at-risk young people and their families and offering welcome, trust and support to asylum seekers and refugees.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the senior management position and is the external face of St Francis Social Services (SFSS) providing leadership in matters relating to the ethos, policies, strategies and performance.
The CEO works closely and collaboratively with the Board of Directors of SFSS, is an advocate and promoter of SFSS and publicly represents its purpose and strategic directions.
SFSS operates 2 services.
Centre 360 Youth and Family Service (C360) is a community-based adolescent counselling and support service at Paddington, operating since 1978. C360 provides individual counselling, advocacy, practical assistance, group work, and mentoring programs to highly disadvantaged young people aged 12-24 years and who either reside in or move through the inner city of Sydney and South-Eastern Sydney.
C360 commonly works in the areas of trauma and loss, adolescent mental health, family difficulties and breakdown, family violence, substance abuse, homelessness, and juvenile and young adult offending. C360 works to strengthen young people’s connection to their families and communities, enhance their well-being and resilience, and to help them achieve positive life outcomes such as good physical and mental health, healthy relationship skills, strong support networks, stable housing, employment, education, and training. C360 operates a number of integrated projects.
The House of Welcome (HOW), based in Granville, is committed to serve people seeking asylum who are living in the community. Clients come to HOW through word of mouth, by referral from another organisation and from other clients.
HOW operates a drop-in centre and currently provides transitional accommodation and housing for approximately 80 refugees and asylum seekers in 17 properties. Staff and volunteers also offer a variety of support services such as casework, employment, financial assistance, foodbank, referrals, advocacy and community development programs for numerous clients across Sydney. HOW also operates a social enterprise catering business and has a commercial kitchen in its offices in Granville.
A number of clients cared for by HOW have been living in the community for an extended period of time without benefits. The stress of their journey thus far, their uncertain future and enforced poverty have devastating impacts, such as homelessness, poor health, isolation, family breakdown and mental health concerns.
Within this context, HOW plays a significant role in client-based advocacy working with various agencies, organisations and other client stakeholders.
Applicants will need to provide evidence of the right to work in Australia. Temporary work visas will not be considered.
