The Role

The Regional Outreach Counsellor/Project Officer will provide a wide range of therapeutic interventions for survivors of refugee trauma and/or torture settling in the Hunter and Central Coast. This will form 50% of their workload. They will also liaise with refugee communities and other relevant stakeholders to develop and implement community development activities. It is expected that community development and group work will make up approximately 30 % of the workload while the remaining 20% will be taken by provision of training and research.

The successful applicant will be part of a multicultural and multi-disciplinary team.

Skills Required

You will have tertiary qualifications in Health, Welfare, Social Work, Psychology or Counselling. You will have an understanding of refugee issues, and the effects of torture on individuals, families and communities in the context of resettlement in the Hunter.  Demonstrated clinical skills and experience in the use of a variety of therapeutic approaches in a multicultural context, knowledge and experience of community education, community development and community work as well as demonstrated group work skills and experience.

You will be a highly motivated person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively within a multicultural team setting.
