THE ORGANISATION

STARTTS is a not-for-profit Affiliated Health Organisation focused on providing a broad range of servicesto refugees in NSW. The focus of STARTTS approach is on building capacity and empowering people and communities to take control over their own lives, using a strengths-based approach and building on individual, family, community and cultural strengths.

THE ROLE

This position is responsible for the implementation of Arts@STARTTS Initiative. Arts@STARTTS aims to improve the wellbeing of small and emerging refugee communities and individuals by increasing opportunities to participate in excellent arts practices within Australian context. The project will also support building of sustainable arts-based infrastructures in relevant refugee communities.

The position is placed within the STARTTS Community Services Team and will be working closely with a number of STARTTS teams, building on previous and existing community arts projects (e.g. River Project, Musical Odyssey, South Sudanese Dance Project, Refugee Art Exhibition and Bosnian Women’s Choir) and aims to implement and grow a strategic community cultural development approach at STARTTS. The successful applicant will also be working alongside a number of arts and non-arts partners with commitment, expertise and interest in refugee issues and arts management.

Work Type: Full time; 38 hours per week. Contract up to 12 months (continuation subject toongoing funding)

Location: Auburn

Salary: Health Education Officer or other relevant classification based on qualifications, experience, and requirements of the role. A generous salary packaging scheme is also offered.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  1. Tertiary qualifications in community development/social work/arts management or related field and/or extensive experience in the community cultural development/arts management field
  2. Demonstrated experience in arts project management, event management and excellent organisational skills
  3. Demonstrated experience in the promotion of arts-based projects, supported by extensive networks within the NSW arts sector and highly developed networking and professional relationship-building skills
  4. Demonstrated ability to operate within a highly complex political and social environment.
  5. Ability to mentor and support emerging community artists
  6. Understanding of the importance of artistic expression in supporting the process of recovery from trauma in individual and community context
  7. Excellent oral, written & interpersonal communication skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.
  8. Strong organisational and project management skills, including the ability to plan, prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Desirable

  1. Experience in working with newly arrived refugee communities.
  2. Bi-lingual in a community language relevant to refugee communities living in NSW.

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS

**This role is a Category A role. It is mandatory for Category A workers to meet and maintain the vaccination criteria (as per the current NSW Health and STARTTS policies).

Vaccination and/or assessment is required for Category A workers for the following transmissible diseases – measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, varicella (chickenpox), diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), influenza and tuberculosis. 

COVID19 vaccination is strongly recommended, but not a requirement for employment.

If successful you must provide evidence of vaccination and/or assessment.

Should you not be able to comply with vaccination requirements before your commencement date, the offer of employment may be withdrawn.

If you have a medical reason for why you cannot be vaccinated, a medical contraindication evidence will be required.
