OVERVIEW OF STAND UP:

Purpose:

As Jews we have a responsibility to improve our world. Stand Up exists to channel the collective energy, expertise and compassion of the Australian Jewish community to grasp and fulfil this responsibility.

Vision:

Australian Jews realising a just Australia where everyone has the opportunity to thrive – unconstrained by attitudes and systems that entrench disadvantage.

Mission:

Inspiring and mobilising the Australian Jewish community and working together with marginalised communities to tackle Australia’s most pressing social challenges through action and education.

PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE:

Stand Up supports a First Nations Voice to Parliament, acknowledging the complexity and nuance of that support.

In preparation for the upcoming referendum, and in line with Stand Up’s mission, we are running an ambitious campaign to support the YES vote.

This requires the Stand Up campaign to:

  • Mobilise leaders in our community by training them in organising and campaigning skills

  • Unite the Jewish community behind a shared pursuit and common goal

  • Expose the community to a new style of activism and community work that fosters strong participation

  • Position Stand Up as a dynamic and cutting edge communal organisation

  • Share knowledge that equips other Jewish communal organisations with the ability to creatively campaign for the Voice and other community change.

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Implement and help shape the campaign strategy with the support of the campaign committee, which includes:
    • Community activation through existing networks
    • Education and upskilling events in partnership with First Nations community
    • Digital campaigning and advertising
    • Field campaigning
  • Work with the CEO to fundraise for the campaign
  • Recruit, build and manage a campaign team, including staff and volunteers
  • Engage with Stand Up’s First Nations partners
  • Use data to adapt strategy and inform decision making
  • Manage strategic partnerships with existing Jewish communal networks
  • Liaise with other ‘Yes’ campaigns to coordinate events & synergies
  • Liaise with advertising and graphic designers to create compelling content and publicity for the campaign
  • Development reporting mechanisms to track the effectiveness of the campaign and the wider public support for the ‘Yes’ vote
  • Ensure all aspects of work have strong and well-informed gender, diversity, equity and representation perspectives
  • Evaluate and report on campaign outcomes

  • Communication with all key stakeholders.
  • Operate in a manner that is collaborative; sharing information and knowledge which contributes to team development.
  • Active participation in Stand Up programs, events, social media and publications.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate others
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the natural ability to coordinate the collaboration of internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge and experience of the Australian Jewish Community.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering innovative, forward thinking campaign strategies to engage and inspire the Australian Jewish Community Experience with and/or knowledge (or ability to quickly gain knowledge) of working with First Nations peoples and communities
  • An understanding of historical and current issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • A broad understanding of the wider impacts of Stand Up’s work including issues such as international politics, development philosophy, cross cultural understanding, and the social, cultural and economic aspects of the communities in which Stand Up works.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Tertiary qualification in law, communications, marketing, or related field
  • Experience managing a campaign, or working in an NFP environment
