About Speak Out Advocacy
Speak Out helps people with disability across Tasmania.
We help people:
- Speak up
- Be treated fairly
- Have their rights respected
Our advocacy is:
Speak Out has been helping people since 1982.
What kind of organisation is Speak Out?
Speak Out is a Disabled Persons Organisation.
This means:
- It is run by people with disability
- It is for people with disability
We also work with other advocacy groups across Australia.
What does the Board do?
The Board is a group of people who help lead Speak Out.
The Board:
- Helps make big decisions
- Makes sure Speak Out follows the law
- Helps look after money
- Helps plan for the future
What will I do as a Board Member?
As a Board Member, you will:
- Go to Board meetings
- Read information before meetings
- Share your ideas
- Help with planning and decisions
- Support Speak Out’s values
Meetings and time needed
- About 6 meetings each year
- Some meetings are online
- Some meetings are in person
Time needed:
- About 3–4 hours each month
- Plus 2 days each year
Term:
- 4 years
- You can stay longer if members vote for you
Who can apply?
You do not need:
- Board experience
- Special training
You do need:
- Interest
- Commitment
- Willingness to learn
