Established in 1975, we are part of a national provider network that provides OT services and interventions related to customised and commercial assistive technology solutions, and our unique Freedom Wheels custom bike service.

We are offering an exciting opportunity to be part of a collaborative working group as a key stakeholder for a national Economic & Community Participation (ECP) project, My Active Life - enabling people living with disability to access sport and recreation activities of their choice.

People with lived experience (direct and indirect) of disability have valuable knowledge, insights, and expertise on living with a disability and how to support people with disability.

Our new Sport & Recreation - Lived Experience Advisory Group (LEAG) is being established to ensure that customers, families and carers are active partners in product and service design, development, and delivery.

Purpose of the Role

Community-based, our national advisory group will be part of mobilising the My Active Life project, an exciting expansion plan with goals of improving access and participation in sport and recreation for 4,500 Australians living with disability.

You will collaborate with a project team and sector colleagues to inform strategy for developing innovative solutions. Coming in from the ground level you will make your impact from planning through to delivery, initially over a two-year period, ensuring there is a breadth of support offered across a diverse range of leisure pursuits.

The overall purpose of the Sport & Recreation LEAG is to:

  • Ensure lived experience perspectives are incorporated into our operations and expansion of products and services supporting people living with disability and older people to access and participate in the sport, recreation and leisure activities of their choice.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to My Active Life project teamon current and emerging ideas, issues and opportunities.
  • Represent the diverse range of clients we serve.
  • Advise on lived experience of current policy and practice in sport and recreation, and related support systems (e.g. NDIS).
  • Provide insight for engagement activities, such as new and established programs events, and targeted advisory groups (TAGs).
  • Providing input in partnership with Deakin University to be submitted to the Department of Social Services (DSS) and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) for the Economic & Community Participation (ECP) grants team.
  • Inform academic research project approach throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in relevant marketing and promotions including interviews, speaking engagements, social media campaigns where required.

The Role

This role requires attendance and participation in Bi-Monthly meetings over a two-year period. This will be via Zoom and will be chaired collaboratively by a member of Solve and their university partner, Deakin University – School of Health Science & Allied Health, and senior advisors.

Along with members in lived experience roles, Sport & Recreation LEAG membership includes:

  • Committee members and carer members (working within disability services)
  • Consumers and carer/family member from the community (i.e. not employed as a consumer or carer consultant).

Membership also extends to Solve’s Leadership Team, Disability Sport & Recreation (Victoria), Inclusion Melbourne, TOM: Melbourne and the wider TAD Australia network.

Remuneration

Members will be remunerated for their time and contribution of expertise, according to a daily rate.

  • Those who are interested will complete the expression of interest form by the close date
  • All expressions of interest will be reviewed by a selection panel and those who are shortlisted will be invited to an interview, in-person or via Zoom
  • Interviews will take place week in late January and will recommend six nominations to the co-chairs for endorsement
  • Once this process has been completed, those who nominated will be notified of the outcome
