Seeking suitably qualified individuals to join as a member of the Self-Determination Fund’s Advisory and Investment Committee.

The Self-Determination Fund is a newly established public charitable trust. It is a First Peoples owned and controlled resource, designed by and for First Peoples of Victoria. The purpose of the Self-Determination Fund is to provide a financial resource that will promote First Peoples’ economic development, both through the Treaty process and into the future.

The main purposes of the fund are:

• Equal Footing in Treaty Negotiations for Traditional Owners in Victoria - to support Traditional Owners to enter Treaty negotiations with the State Government on a more level playing field, and
• Wealth and Prosperity of all First Peoples in Victoria – to be a resource to help First Peoples to build capacity, wealth, and prosperity for current and future generations.

Over the longer-term, the purpose of the Fund will also include Future Investments and fundraising to meet the charitable goals of the Fund and to ensure the Fund is sustainable in perpetuity.

The Opportunity:

To support the Trustee Board an Advisory and Investment Committee was established, currently comprised of:

• An Elder, nominated by the Assembly’s Elders’ Voice;
• An Elder with cultural and community leadership experience;
• Two people with experience in managing investments or funds;

The functions of the Advisory and Investment Committee may include advising the Trustee on:

• Strategic direction of the Self-Determination Fund and spending priorities;
• Funding Guidelines;
• Investment Policy, Investment Strategy and opportunities for the Self-Determination Fund;
• decisions in relation to distributions and investments;
• reporting and budget processes of the Trustee; and
• any other functions the Trustee may determine from time to time consistent with the Trust Deed.

We are seeking to place a fifth member of the committee and would suit individuals with the following expertise, experience and attributes:

• A person with relevant experience in business or financial strategy
• A person with relevant accounting skills
• A person with relevant legal or governance skills
• A combination of the above experience and expertise.
