Better Health Network (BHN) is one of the largest providers of Primary Health services in Victoria, providing a broad range of health and support programs. BHN was formed out of the voluntary amalgamation of Central Bayside Community Health Services (CBCHS), Connect Health & Community and Star Health in 2022 with a commitment to Better for Client, Better for Staff, Better for Community. BHN encompasses more than 22 locations and has over 800 staff working in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver services including aged care, mental health, AOD, disability and primary health.

The Director Mental Health and AOD is responsible for leadership and oversight of the Mental Health and AOD Directorate of Client Services and directs a variety of significant multi-disciplinary complex or large functions across multiple locations. The role reports to the Executive Director Client Services and is a member of BHN’s Senior Leadership Team. The Director is responsible for the continued management and transformation of BHN’s integration and client journey experience and contributes to the development and implementation of BHN’s strategic objectives.

The role encompasses leadership of all aspects of the relevant services and programs, including:

• Service Delivery – Client Experience
• Reporting, Business Development, Systems and Analytics
• Culture, Engagement, Diversity – People Experience
• Financials, Budgets, Targets, Funding
• Health and Safety
• Risk Management and Compliance – Quality and Accreditation
• Innovation and Business Development

This is a role for a highly experienced health professional; a values-driven organisational leader, with a track record of impact, innovation and service delivery, and a deep understanding of the mental health/AOD sector.

To be considered, you’ll need to have a range of skills and experience including:

• Relevant professional registration or tertiary or clinical qualification in mental health, AOD or a related field.

• Strong understanding and experience of the mental health/AOD services sector, with a track record of delivering high quality, client-centred services.
• Understanding of Government policy and context, the reform agenda and potential funding and partnership opportunities.
• Agility, strong conceptual skills, and an ability to identify emerging issues relevant to the MH/AOD sector.
• Contemporary leadership and organisation management skills, and an ability to engage and inspire others to high performance.
• Ability to prioritise, plan, organise, and manage competing priorities; pro-active, solution focused.
• Sound financial and analytical skills, comfortable working with data.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and business partnering skills, and a well-developed ability to engage and negotiate with stakeholders
