Sydney Community Foundation Gives Ltd

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Amplify the voice and work of Sydney Women Fund as our first dedicated Storytelling Lead
  • Part-time role (2 days per week) with hybrid working arrangements based in Newtown
  • 12-month contract
  • $110,000 pro rata and plus superannuation

ABOUT US

Sydney Women's Fund is a leading philanthropic organisation advancing gender equity across Greater Sydney and is a key impact Sub Fund of Sydney Community Foundation.

We invest in community-led solutions, support women and girls facing disadvantage, convene leaders and changemakers, and work alongside communities to create lasting social change. Through grantmaking, research, advocacy and collaboration, we are helping to build a Sydney where every woman and girl can thrive.

Over the past year, Sydney Women's Fund has invested more than $600,000 into programs supporting women and families across Greater Sydney, while launching new initiatives focused on place-based change in Western Sydney.

We believe stories are one of the most powerful tools for change. Stories build understanding, inspire action, challenge stereotypes, connect donors with impact and elevate the voices of women whose experiences are too often overlooked.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a talented Storytelling & Content Lead to uncover, shape and share the stories that bring Sydney Women's Fund's work to life.

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled writer, content creator and storyteller to work at the intersection of philanthropy, gender equity and social impact.

You will be responsible for developing compelling stories and content that showcase the experiences of women and communities across Sydney, highlight the impact of our partners and donors, and strengthen the visibility and influence of Sydney Women's Fund.

The role combines strategic thinking with hands-on content creation. One day you might be interviewing women participating in a community-led program in Liverpool; the next you might be drafting a donor impact story, developing campaign content, producing social media assets or supporting a major fundraising event.

You will work closely with the Sydney Women's Fund team and partners across Greater Sydney to ensure our storytelling is authentic, ethical and impactful.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Identify, develop and share compelling stories across multiple formats, including impact stories, case studies, donor profiles, newsletters, social media and thought leadership content.
  • Build trusted relationships with women, community partners, donors and stakeholders to surface authentic stories with care, integrity and consent.
  • Work with program staff and partners to document and communicate the learnings emerging from Sydney Women's Fund's pilot initiatives and community-led programs through stories, case studies, thought leadership pieces and other learning products.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent and distinctive Sydney Women's Fund voice across all communications channels.
  • Create content that strengthens donor engagement, builds understanding of our work and inspires action for gender equity.
  • Manage the content pipeline and identify opportunities to increase reach, engagement and impact across digital channels.
  • Identify opportunities to amplify the voices and expertise of Sydney Women’s Fund Ambassadors and collaborate with Ambassadors to develop and deliver meaningful engagement opportunities.
  • Support major events, campaigns and organisational priorities through compelling narrative content, storytelling assets and impact communications.

ABOUT YOU

Whether your background is in journalism, communications, documentary, podcasting, or the written word, you are a curious and thoughtful storyteller who understands the power of narrative to drive social change.

You are equally comfortable interviewing community members, writing long-form stories, crafting social media content and identifying strategic opportunities to amplify impact.

You bring strong judgement, empathy and a commitment to ethical storytelling.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience in storytelling, journalism, communications, content creation or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills across multiple formats and audiences.
  • Experience interviewing people and developing authentic, human-centred stories.
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit, philanthropy, community or social impact sectors is highly regarded.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a small team.
  • A commitment to gender equity and social justice.

WHY JOIN US

As an employee of Sydney Community Foundation Gives, you will be expected to uphold the following values:

  • Brave: Step up, support and lead by example to make Sydney a strong and just community.
  • Kind: Compassionate and committed to supporting the most vulnerable in our community.
  • Collaborative: Establish, build and maintain partnerships to achieve our goals.
