JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Lead community grantmaking at one of Australia’s leading community foundations
  • Help shape innovative and community-led approaches to philanthropy, including a major participatory grantmaking initiative in Mt Druitt
  • Build relationships with grassroots organisations, community leaders and funding partners across Sydney
  • Permanent Part-time role (4 days per week) with hybrid working arrangements based in Newtown and Mt Druitt.
  • Applicants must hold a current driver's licence and have access to a motor vehicle to fulfil the requirements of this role.
  • Salary: $120,000 (including not-for-profit salary packaging benefit) pro rata, plus superannuation

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an exciting opportunity to lead community grantmaking at one of Australia’s leading community foundations. The Community Grants Manager will oversee Sydney Community Foundation’s granting programs while also playing a key role in an innovative participatory grantmaking initiative in Mt Druitt.

The role combines strategic grantmaking, community engagement and partnership management. Alongside managing Sydney Community Foundation’s broader grants portfolio, the role will support a partnership with the Paul Ramsay Foundation and The Centre for Social Innovation (TACSI) to deliver participatory grantmaking in Mt Druitt.

This role would suit someone who enjoys both the operational and relational aspects of grantmaking and can balance strong governance and process with community engagement and collaboration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Grantmaking

  • Lead grantmaking processes end-to-end, including assessment, due diligence, contracting, payments, reporting and grant administration
  • Manage grantmaking systems and data infrastructure, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to internal and external stakeholders
  • Support grantees through application and reporting processes, providing clear communication and responsive assistance
  • Prepare reports on grant activity, outcomes and impact metrics for a range of audiences
  • Review and improve grantmaking processes to reduce administrative burden and improve accessibility for grantees
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in participatory grantmaking, trust-based philanthropy and community-led funding approaches

Community and Partnership Engagement

  • Build and steward relationships with Participatory Grantmaking partners and committees, centering accessibility, transparency and responsiveness and serving as a bridge to Sydney Community Foundation
  • Build the grantmaking capacity of community, including designing and delivering training for participatory grantmaking committees.

Strategy, Learning and Improvement

  • Participate in learning and reflection activities to identify insights, trends and opportunities emerging through grantmaking
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of Sydney Community Foundation’s grantmaking practices and community investment approach
  • Support impact measurement, evaluation and shared learning across grantmaking programs

ABOUT YOU

  • Relevant experience in grantmaking, philanthropy, community development, social impact or related fields
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with experience managing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse communities and sectors
  • Experience facilitating collaboration, engagement or capacity-building activities with community stakeholders
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and process
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in participatory, trust-based or community-led approaches to philanthropy and social change
  • Ability to balance strong governance and administration with empathy, responsiveness and collaboration
