ORGANISATION DESCRIPTION

Vixen is Victoria’s peer-only sex worker organisation, as recognised by Scarlet Alliance, Australian Sex Workers Association. Vixen promotes the cultural, legal, human, occupational, and civil rights of all sex workers, and have been leading the Victorian campaign for the full decriminalisation of sex work for many years.

Scarlet Alliance, Australian Sex Workers Association, the peak national body representing sex workers and sex worker organisations in Australia, will auspice Vixen and support Vixen’s transition to operate as an autonomous sex worker organisation.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Vixen Operations Manager will be responsible for effectively and efficiently leading and managing all aspects of the organisation’s operations to ensure the organisation’s objectives are achieved in line with its core values, vision and mission statement.

The Vixen Operations Manager will:

  • Provide leadership that models best practice, facilitates high quality services to sex workers, promotes a culture of inclusion and participation, and supports the organisation to transition into an autonomous organisation.
  • Manage performance indicators and contractual outcomes for the Vixen projects/programs and preparing and submitting periodic reports and acquittals to funding bodies.
  • Manage all aspects of the organisation’s service provision, health promotion and communications activities whilst ensuring adherence to the organisation’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Coordinate and manage Vixen’s administrative and strategic work including financial and payroll management, grant and proposal writing, monitoring and evaluation, funder reporting, staff supervision, and partnership agreements with existing and potential partners.
  • Develop and facilitate an effective and cohesive project team through strategies such as team capacity building and the resolution of issues and conflicts in a timely manner consistent with organisational values, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure sound financial management in accordance with industry best practice and manage program financial resources including the development, implementation, and monitoring of the program budget.

POSITION LOCATION

The position will be based at the Vixen Melbourne office. Some evening and weekend work and interstate travel may also be required, subject to your availability.

SALARY & CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT

This part-time position is offered for a one-year contract to start and is subject to ongoing funding or organisational change.

This is a part-time position of 0.8 FTE (30 hours/week, 4 days/week) paid at the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 Level 6, ($49.07 per hour, pro rata $96,969.60 per annum) and subject to the National Employment Standards.

Salary sacrifice is available for this position.

TRAINING/ORIENTATION

The start-up phase for this position includes a comprehensive orientation and opportunities for training.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA (Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities):

  1. Sex work experience and demonstrated understanding of the principles of human rights and sex worker rights.
  2. Knowledge of organisational structure, practices, and activities within a peer-based community organisation, and principles of sex worker community development.
  3. Demonstrated skills in program management including staff supervision and mentoring; report writing; budgeting and financial management; proposal writing and program evaluation.
  4. Previous experience with grant management, strategic and work planning, and project management.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant theory and practice as it relates to BBV and STI prevention for sex workers, including community development, peer education, enabling environments, and harm reduction.
  6. Comprehensive knowledge of the design, delivery, and evaluation of health promotion services.
  7. Knowledge of community-based organisation governance mechanisms and approaches.
  8. Strong computer skills including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, file management, internet and email.
  9. A desire, willingness and ability to work with other sex workers, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people who inject drugs, trans and gender diverse people, and people living with HIV.
  10. Willingness to travel inter/intrastate and be available outside of standard business hours.
