Youth Worker - Youth Partnership Project

Save The Children

We're looking for an experienced and innovative Youth Worker to join our team and create meaningful change for young people in Perth's south-east corridor. Your role in our Youth Partnership Project will be to support the safety, wellbeing, resilience and development of at-risk children and young people. As part of our team, you'll create a culturally safe space for young people to have fun, build positive relationships, engage with the community and acquire a variety of life skills.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence.

Where you come in:

In this full time, fixed term position (14 months, with potential for extension), based across Armadale and Gosnells, you'll deliver a variety of engaging physical, educational and social activities that support young people with complex needs. The Youth Partnership Project (YPP) is an innovative and collaborative early intervention strategy, getting the right support, to the right young people, at the right time. Based across Armadale and Gosnells, you'll support young people (aged 8-14) identified by the partnership and provide individualised support based on their case management plan. You'll be part of our Youth Partnership Project team and report to our Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Supporting the planning and implementation of engaging activities
  • Building lasting relationships with young people from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, providing practical support, mentoring and advocacy
  • Creating a welcoming and safe environment that encourages active participation and program growth
  • Working in collaboration with YPP partners (government and non-government) towards common goals to meet the complex needs of participants

If we could compose the perfect you…

…Your empathy, creativity and motivation to see young people grow help you to implement a varied program of engaging activities. Your understanding and remarkable communication skills make you the ideal representative of Save the Children and will see you nurture engagement from young people, their families and the wider community. No two days will look the same in this role, so your responsiveness, problem solving, and flexibility will be drawn upon daily to ensure young people are able to access the right supports to make positive decisions.

This role requires:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Social Science or another related field
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people with complex needs
  • Highly developed skills and experience in building rapport with young people with complex needs, particularly Aboriginal young people
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a partnership with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Proven ability to anticipate and resolve risk/problems in a creative and timely manner
  • Experience in responding to child protection concerns safely and effectively

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job

It's the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same. In addition to a connection to social causes, you will have access to:

  • Individual learning plans to assist in your career development
  • Friendly and flexible work environment
  • Award rate salary plus full salary packaging benefits
  • Professional supervision training and monthly supervision sessions
