Project Officer, Humanitarian Team - Flexible Location

Save The Children

Save the Children is one of the leading humanitarian actors in Australia and around the world. In this newly created role, you'll play a key role in ensuring we save lives and leave no child behind. As part of a globally networked and diverse group of humanitarians, you'll help ensure our teams are ready to respond to disasters in Australian domestic contexts and in the Pacific.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

In this full-time contract position through to end of November 2022, based anywhere in Australia, you'll support our Humanitarian Team to build our preparedness to respond to emergencies with a particular focus on ensuring Save the Children's domestic response systems are sustainable and fit for purpose. Your work will ensure we can respond quickly and deliver high-quality humanitarian programs in Australia, as well as the Pacific. As part of our International Programs team, you'll report to our Emergency Preparedness and Response Advisor. Subject to COVID protocols, the role can be based out of one of our capital city offices if you prefer, or entirely from home.

You will make an impact by:

  • Enabling and supporting Australian and Pacific response teams to deliver a rapid, appropriate, and effective response to humanitarian emergencies
  • Supporting State Offices and Country Offices in the Pacific to increase preparedness and response capacity including the development of training programs, supply chain management, EPPs and simulations
  • Ensuring our emergency deployments are integrated with our internal systems and are increasingly agile and fit for purpose
  • Support business development by assisting with design concept notes, project designs, proposals, and budgets, ensuring compliance and quality issues are adequately addressed

Does this sound like you?

You're a humanitarian at heart with relevant experience or studies. You're highly flexible and enjoy working in challenging circumstances, with an ability to manage a varied and unpredictable workload. While you enjoy working in a team, you also excel at managing discrete projects independently. You're highly organised and feel comfortable supporting and managing a large variety of projects at once.

This role requires:

  • Experience or relevant qualifications in humanitarian response and programming
  • Strong interpersonal skills to bring diverse internal stakeholders together to create practical solutions and ensure sustainable systems are in place for teams to respond to emergencies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to support in developing funding proposals and writing donor reports
  • Willingness to deploy either remotely or physically within Australia or the Pacific during an emergency

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.

It's the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same. In addition to a connection to social causes, you will have access to:

  • Opportunity to work on additional projects alongside business as usual
  • Individual learning plans to assist in your career development
  • Internal employment and development opportunities
  • Friendly and flexible work environment, including working from home (WFH)
  • Full salary packaging benefits
  • Additional annual leave options available
