Parent Support Worker - Devonport

Where you come in:

In this part-time, fixed term position (4 days per week through to end of June 2021), you'll be responsible for the day to day delivery of the Intensive Family Engagement Services (IFES) program in relevant areas across Tasmania. You'll work to build a structure of safety and sustainability while providing evidence-based parenting education programs and modelling appropriate parenting techniques. Working intensively with the families, you'll build the strength, capacity and protections required for families to provide a consistent, safe, and nurturing home environment for their children. You'll be based in Devonport and report to our Team Leader Family Services.

N.B.: While COVID-19 social distancing regulations are in place, the role is predominantly working remotely.

You will make an impact by:

  • Providing intensive case management support to families
  • Supporting parents in their parenting role either individually or in group settings, using partnership, strengths-based and family-centred outreach approaches
  • Collecting and recording data and information for the purpose of accountability, evaluation, and reporting
  • Working in partnership with Child Safety Services to assess and evaluate family progress, using Signs of Safety

Does this sound like you?

… You're a natural communicator, with strong counselling and interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate and advocate on behalf of families. You have an in-depth understanding of the importance of the "early years" and child development, including the impact of trauma on child development. You're willing to work within a flexible service delivery model, with some out of hours work including early mornings and early evenings.

This role requires:

  • Experience in assessing risk and supporting families through crisis in an inclusive, explicit, and non-judgemental manner
  • Demonstrated understanding of child protection and the child protection system
  • Degree or Diploma in a relevant field
  • First Aid Certificate or ability to attain one
  • Driver's Licence
  • Working with Vulnerable People Card
