Where you come in:

In this full-time fixed-term contract until 31st July 2020 (with potential for extension), you'll work with the Groote team to deliver programs and services that promote positive approaches to parenting and family wellbeing. You'll strengthen links to the community and develop confidence in in our evidence & strength-based delivery approach. You'll be based in Groote Eylandt, meaning "big island", in the Gulf of Carpentaria and located 630kms from Darwin off the coast of Arnhem Land. The Warnindilyakwa Aboriginal people are Traditional Custodians of the Groote Eylandt region and are referred to by their language name Anindilyakwa. As part of our Walking 2 Worlds Program team, you'll report to the Regional Manager.

You will make an impact by:

  • Providing group and individual support to families from a child centred, strengths based, solutions focused and culturally safe approach
  • Building strong, lasting connections with people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
  • Supporting families to access the assistance they need, when they need it
  • Actively encouraging families experiencing vulnerability to engage with our programs
  • Collecting and recording data for monitoring, reporting and evaluation

…You're truly passionate about standing up for children. Your experience in case management roles and ability to think on your feet will see you find solutions to complex situations. Your comprehensive cultural knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will help you build strong connections with people from the local community. You have empathy, a 'can-do attitude' and most importantly, you have an infectious enthusiasm for your work.

This role requires:

  • Qualification in Counselling, Social Work or related field (diploma level minimum)
  • Comprehensive experience working in diverse and disadvantaged communities
  • Experience working in rural and remote areas for extended periods
  • Proven understanding of child development stages and influences
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build lasting relationships
  • Driver's licence (car available for work use)
