ABOUT THE SA UNIONS GENDER EQUALITY PROGRAM

Project title "Critical inclusion: Building SA's prosperity through Gender Equality"

The Project supports the attraction, retention and progression of women in the gender segregated workplaces critical to South Australia's industrial future. The Project develops and delivers targeted gender equality initiatives, underpinned by consultation, quantitative and qualitative research, tailored for targeted SA workplaces.

The initiatives include the development of tailored tools and resources, supported by educational sessions and training – designed to be scalable.

The Project was established in April 2025, and is scheduled to continue until 30 June 2028.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Project is currently being undertaken by a Project Team which includes a Project Coordinator and three (3) Project Officers employed by SA Unions. From 1 July 2026, the Project Team will expand to include an Administration officer.

The purpose of the Administration officer role is to provide Project support and high-level administrative assistance. The position requires the successful applicant to work under general direction and exercise a degree of autonomy and judgement within prescribed areas with assistance available when required.

The position is fixed term and part-time 0.6 FTE, and SA Unions is open to discussions about how the 0.6 FTE is worked (i.e. as three full days, or part days over four or five days per week).

The Project Officer – Administration will work in collaboration with the Project team to:

  • provide administrative assistance and support, including through:
    • calendar and appointment management
    • fielding phone calls and enquiries, and providing referrals as needed
    • preparation, collation and distribution of meeting agendas, minutes and reports as required
    • maintenance of reporting systems and preparation of documentation
    • organisation of travel and accommodation for team members attending functions, conferences and events
    • organisation and coordination of events and post event reporting
    • management of correspondence, and preparation and formatting of documentation including reports, information packs, letters and emails
  • support efficient financial systems and practices to ensure payment of invoices and accurate record keeping
  • recognise cross project and departmental opportunities to enhance Project outcomes
  • support the development of processes and work systems
  • promote and support an inclusive workplace culture which values diversity and embraces the principles of equal opportunity

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE - REQUIRED

  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, including the ability to support projects, work collaboratively to prioritise workloads, problem solve and meet deadlines.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship management skills with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills including experience with the preparation of documentation, including inputting to draft correspondence, minutes, reports and other resource materials.
  • Proficiency in using the full range of Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel. Proficiency in Canva, Monday, Teams and SharePoint also an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the requirements of confidentiality and flexibility within a professional work team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to worker’s rights, trade unionism, social justice, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, with the ability to analyse information to identify problems and develop appropriate solutions.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE - DESIRABLE

It is desirable for candidates to satisfy one or more of the below:

  • Demonstration of professional development relevant to the field of gender equity, gender equality, and/or work health and safety.
  • Understanding of the barriers facing women in gender segregated industries.
  • Understanding of industry structures, work health and safety, and workplace rights.
  • Participation in union, political and/or community campaigns.
  • Completion of a Certificate IV with relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and /or education/training.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS

This is a two year, grant funded position ending on 30 June 2028.

Fixed term part time employment is offered for an initial six months, with an additional eighteen-month engagement contingent on meeting project milestones and funding conditions.

  • Reporting to the Secretary, SA Unions
  • Employment conditions subject to the SA Unions Enterprise Agreement
  • Part-time 0.6 FTE ($89,675.64 FTE)
  • Fixed term contract 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2028
  • Classification UTLC 3
  • 13.5% Superannuation
  • Flexible working arrangements and attractive leave entitlements including 12 rostered days off (pro rata) per year
  • Christmas shutdown leave and 4 weeks pro-rata annual leave
  • Whilst the position is based in the Adelaide CBD, staff have access to remote working options
