SA Unions is the United Trades and Labor Council of SA, representing the South Australian union movement and over 160,000 members across our state.
Since 1884, our history is rich. It has been our advocacy and dogged campaigning for almost a century and a half that has been responsible for the huge leaps forward in the living conditions of workers in this state.
SA Union’s mission is to:
- Maximise the union movement’s effect in political, social, economic and industrial issues.
- Defend and extend the rights of working people,
- Increase the standing of trade unions; and,
- Provide leadership and co-ordination on issues of broad concern to unions and the community.
Role description
The Campaigns and Communications Organiser:
- works with the Organising and Communications Lead and multiple stakeholders across the South Australian union movement to execute campaigns which advance SA Unions’ objects and interests.
- works with union members, workplace leaders and union officials from across the diverse industries and occupations represented by SA Unions to support union growth, industry, community and political campaigning.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with all affiliate unions to SA Unions and other progressive organisations to support growth strategies, cross-union and industry campaigning.
- Utilises organising and campaigning frameworks to research, plan and execute campaigns which build inclusion, participation and organisation of unions and workers.
- Develops engaging and informative campaign content that is both written and visual that will appeal to a wide range of audiences across a variety of communication channels.
The applicant must have strong communication skills and can interpret data to progress our goals.
Experience in campaigning including the development of strategy and union member organising is essential. Experience building alliances, engaging with government and media is valuable.
Key Criteria
- Experience developing and implementing campaign plans designed to advance goals and priorities.
- Experience developing and implementing strategies using digital tools to inspire people to take part in activism.
- Develop engaging and informative campaign content that is both written and visual to advance SA Unions’ campaigns and strategic goals.
- Ensure campaigns maintain a strong focus on organising, activist and union member recruitment.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong relationships with all key industrial, political and community stakeholders.
- A high degree of initiative, creativity and self-drive, with proven ability to collaborate.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to produce high quality plans and reports.
- Experience in representing members in workplace negotiations and political advocacy.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary industrial relations
- Demonstrated commitment to union values and integrity.
- Familiarity with union coverage and priorities in South Australia.
- Current Working with Children Check or ability to obtain one.
- Unrestricted driver’s license
Salary and conditions
- FTE: Full Time, 12 month initial fixed term contract
- Reporting to the Organising and Communications Lead
- Employment conditions subject to the SA Unions Enterprise Agreement
- Salary: UTLC 3.1, $86,643 p.a FTE (with a wage and superannuation increase due on 1 July 2026)

Whilst the position is based in the Adelaide CBD, staff have access to remote working options.
