Non-Executive Board Director (Volunteer Role)

Satellite Foundation

Satellite Foundation (Satellite) is seeking passionate and purpose-driven individuals to join its Board of Directors.

Established in 2009, Satellite Foundation is a not-for-profit that connects and empowers children and young people who have a family member experiencing mental health challenges. Often referred to as young carers, these children and young people may take on emotional, practical or other caring responsibilities within their families. Satellite aims to foster a strong connection between young people, their families and the wider community. Satellite’s programs use a combination of creativity and the sharing of lived experience to combat isolation and promote confidence, self-esteem and good coping strategies. Satellite offers peer support in a range of in-person and online programs, workshops, activities and projects that are centred on connection.

This is an opportunity to contribute your expertise, strategic thinking and leadership to a respected not-for-profit organisation making a meaningful difference in the mental health sector.

about the role

We are seeking Directors who can contribute strategically to the governance and future direction of the organisation. At this time, the Board is particularly interested in hearing from individuals who bring experience or expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Fundraising, philanthropy and donor engagement
  • Finance, accounting, audit and risk oversight
  • Legal, governance and regulatory compliance
  • Communications, marketing, public affairs and advocacy
  • Community engagement and partnership development
  • Lived experience and community perspectives relevant to mental health, caregiving, youth wellbeing and the communities Satellite serves

We welcome applications from both experienced Board Directors and individuals seeking their first governance appointment who can demonstrate the skills, perspectives and commitment required to contribute effectively at Board level.

Satellite values diversity and inclusion and strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally diverse communities, people with disability, LGBTQIA+ communities and people with lived experience connected to mental health and caregiving.

This is a voluntary governance role with approximately 10–12 hours commitment per month, including evening Board meetings held in a hybrid format.
