As part of SANE, The Dax Centre provides artists with lived experience of mental health issues opportunities for creative expression while fostering social change by expanding the public’s awareness of mental illness and breaking down stigma through art. Through our exhibitions, art program and educational programs we seek to engage, inform, and encourage community connections and conversations about mental health and eliminate stigma.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a Dax Centre Educator (Casual) who will be responsible for facilitating The Dax Centre education programs in an engaging manner that supports student understanding about mental health issues and the role creativity plays in helping people to express their experiences and breakdown stigma.

The Dax Centre education programs are delivered Monday - Friday between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm. Education program sessions are 3 hours each including set up and pack down. There may be multiple sessions in one day depending on program bookings.

In this role you will:

  • Successfully deliver/facilitate secondary and tertiary education programs.
  • Work with mental health Advocates in the presentation of education sessions.
  • Work with Education volunteers during Education sessions.
  • Perform various general administrative tasks supporting our education programs as required.
  • Proactively contribute to improvements that further enhance the impact and engagement of the education programs.

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in education or/and mental health.
  • Teaching experience (particularly in secondary schools or tertiary institutions) and/or experience delivering/facilitating workshops to school aged people.
  • A qualification or experience in the arts and/or arts therapy.
  • Ability to deliver education programs independently and in an engaging way.
  • Comfortability and proficiency in facilitating healthy, safe, age appropriate and constructive conversations about mental health.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
