SANDBAG Inc. OBJECTIVES

Sandgate and Bracken Ridge Action Group (known as SANDBAG) is an independent, not for profit, community based and managed organisation, that operates a Neighbourhood Centre, community development projects, a Domestic and Family Abuse Counselling Service for women and children, and provides paid traineeships in conservation. SANDBAG is a generalist organisation - The Sandgate Community Centre has a ‘place-based’ focus which means we can work with people who live locally in the 4017 postcode and adjoining Brisbane North communities. SANDBAG staff use a range of approaches that include education and referral to successfully access and navigate social services, community development, counselling, and hands-on training approaches. We assist people to connect with social and economic opportunities and supports within an open and inclusive environment. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

SANDBAG Inc. Operations Team provides management and leadership systems and support to the organisation. These roles ensure compliance with contracts, legislation and relevant standards, safeguard the healthy culture of SANDBAG within and without, and assist with the delivery of our commitments and services to individuals, families and community.

The Operations Team delivers financial and HR services, administration, payroll, governance, information technology, workplace health and safety, organisation support and quality management. Given the organisation's size, these functions are supported largely by the SANDBAG Manager, Finance Manager, Finance Officer and Administration and Communications Support Officer.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Administration and Communications Support Officer position will work primarily at the Sandgate Community Centre site. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain efficient office systems including organisational record-keeping; data collection, membership management; Sharepoint management, and employee, Board and volunteer commencement support.
  • Provide effective reception services at the Sandgate and Bracken Ridge sites directly and through supporting appropriate volunteers in reception roles.
  • Provide support to the SANDBAG Manager around projects, team development, governance, and quality systems, including drafting letters and documents; data entry; document management, meeting scheduling.
  • Monitor and respond to SANDBAG’s organisational email box, effectively and professionally representing the organisation.
  • Monitor and facilitate the scheduled maintenance and compliance (pest, fire and food preparation licensing) of SANDBAG facilities and equipment.
  • Utilise technology platforms, including social media and SANDBAG website, to strengthen the organisation’s operations and digital profile.
  • Comply with SANDBAG Inc. Code of Ethics, policies and practices and demonstrate an alignment to the organisation’s Mission, Vision and Values. 

Essential requirements

  • Minimum of a Cert III Business Administration (or equivalent) and demonstrated administration/ customer service experience, preferably with a not-for-profit.
  • Good judgement and proficient skills to use social media platforms for professional and organisational outcomes. 
  • Ability to work within a community-based setting and relate and communicate effectively with a diverse range of people including community members, staff, volunteers, managers and other stakeholders.
  • Intermediate level of Microsoft Office skills, including Excel proficiency.
  • A Current Driver’s License (or willingness to obtain); Current Blue Card (or willingness to obtain).
