Project Officer

Southern ACT Catchment Group

Southern ACT Catchment Group (SACTCG) is seeking a Project Officer to support the SACTCG team to deliver community-based projects including bushfire recovery and citizen science projects.

This is a part-time (15 hours per week) position until 30 June 2021 (with three month probation) and possibility of extension and increase of hours.

Salary: $70,350 p.a. pro rata plus travel expenses, superannuation and Long Service Leave.

About Southern ACT Catchment Group

Southern ACT Catchment Group (SACTCG) is an umbrella not-for-profit organisation and Landcare Network that supports 24 member community groups and rural landholders in the Southern ACT area. SACTCG works in partnership with the community to improve biodiversity and habitat connectivity and build community understanding of local environments in the Upper Murrumbidgee Catchment.

This position will report to the Executive Officer of Southern ACT Catchment Group. It will work closely with a range of stakeholders including the ACT Government Rangers, environmental volunteers, science organisations and other community organisations.

Key Duties

  • Organise and manage small groups of volunteers to undertake restoration projects
  • Project manage a range of grant funded projects
  • Work with the Executive Officer to achieve funding requirements and reporting
  • Assist data management from drone vegetation mapping
  • Develop project specific communication materials
  • Attend staff meetings and meet with committee as required
  • Contribute to other duties with running an office as required
  • Additional duties in project management as funding becomes available

Education / Qualifications

  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in Environmental Management / Science is highly advantageous
  • Licence: A current driver’s license
  • Person vehicle is required. Reimbursement for mileage will be in addition to salary

Selection Criteria:

  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills and community engagement experience (preferably in the field of Natural Resource Management or conservation)
  • High level of organisational and project management skills including experience initiating, planning and managing public events
  • Adaptability, flexibility and commitment to work as part of a small team in a changing work environment
  • High-level computer literacy. Experience in using software for spatial data management desirable
  • A passion for protecting our natural environment and strengthening communities
