Advocacy Engagement Lead

Richmind WA

At Richmind WA, every role contributes to our vision for better mental wellbeing outcomes for our community.

We provide transformative, high-quality mental health services and work to shape the future of mental wellbeing in Western Australia through the courage, expertise and passion of our people.

We are now seeking an Advocacy Engagement Lead to drive our advocacy agenda and help influence the systems, policies and partnerships that shape mental health outcomes across WA.

This is a unique opportunity to take a lead role in advancing advocacy that is evidence-informed, grounded in lived experience, and focused on real systemic change.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief People and Brand Officer, the Advocacy Engagement Lead will lead Richmind WA’s advocacy activities and initiatives to help drive systemic mental health reform, close service gaps, and shift community attitudes.

Working across internal teams and external stakeholders, you will translate our advocacy framework into targeted strategies, campaigns and partnerships that influence policy, funding and commissioning reform.

This is a highly visible and purposeful role for someone who can combine strategic thinking, strong stakeholder influence, and ethical advocacy practice.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the planning and delivery of Richmind WA’s advocacy priorities and responses
  • Develop policy submissions, briefings and consultation responses on priority mental health issues
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government, sector partners, peak bodies and community stakeholders
  • Coordinate advocacy coalitions and stakeholder forums around shared priorities
  • Work closely with the Brand and Partnerships team to support advocacy campaigns and community mobilisation
  • Ensure lived experience is meaningfully embedded in advocacy design, delivery and evaluation
  • Monitor the policy environment and identify emerging advocacy opportunities and risks
  • Track advocacy impact, report on outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement

About You

You are a strategic and values-led professional with experience in advocacy, policy, stakeholder engagement or systems change work.

You know how to translate complex issues into compelling advocacy positions and can confidently engage decision-makers, partners and communities to influence change.

You will also bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in advocacy, policy engagement or systemic reform work
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability
  • Experience developing submissions, briefings and evidence-based positions for senior audiences
  • The ability to build partnerships and bring people together around shared goals
  • A commitment to lived experience-informed, trauma-aware and culturally safe practice
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence in representing an organisation externally
  • Sound judgement, initiative and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a part-time senior role

It would be great if you also have:

  • Experience in the mental health, health, community services or not-for-profit sector
  • An understanding of the WA policy and funding environment
  • Experience with media engagement, campaigns or community mobilisation
  • Familiarity with safe storytelling, advocacy ethics and recovery-oriented practice

Why join Richmind WA?

This is an opportunity to join an organisation with a strong sense of purpose and a genuine commitment to advocacy that reflects the voices and experiences of the people and communities we serve.

At Richmind WA, we listen deeply, see people as the individuals they are, and support them to discover the courage they have to shape their own lives.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Shape and elevate Richmind WA’s advocacy presence
  • Influence conversations that matter across the mental health sector
  • Work alongside passionate, values-driven colleagues
  • Contribute to reform that supports better outcomes for people, families and communities
