About the Role

We are currently recruiting an Education Liaison Officer to join our Education and Community Outreach Team in a permanent part-time capacity. Reporting to the Education and Training Manager, you will play a key role in providing expert advice and assistance regarding the use of animals in Education and Training programs, in order to deliver engaging and successful content to learners.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Education and Training Manager, you will:

  • Provide expert advice and assistance regarding the use of animals in Education and Training programs, including contributing the preparation of course plans and content, supervising and ensuring appropriate handling of animals during programs, and delivering and participating in presentations relating to the Barn animals
  • Ensure that accurate documentation is maintained for all care and handling of animals for Education and Training programs, including the collection of animal usage data and production of reports as required, ensuring that all applicable policies and ethics framework requirements are followed
  • Contribute to and/or lead the development, design and delivery of tailored training in the needs and characteristics of horses, livestock and poultry for internal and external education programs
  • Provide assistance in coordinating animals required for the delivery of Education and Training Programs
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment by effectively communicating and working collaboratively with peers across all departments, and consistently behaving in accordance with the RSPCA Victoria values and associated policies.

What we are looking for from you

  • Holds or is willing to complete a Certificate II in Animal Studies or equivalent or higher related study/qualification
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or be willing to gain this qualification within 12 months
  • Previous experience in an animal care role (specifically livestock, horses, production animals, small animals and poultry), including extensive knowledge of animal anatomy, behaviour, disease recognition and safe handling
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging work environment, whilst showing great compassion to the animals in our care
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment
  • The ability to work rotating rosters including weekends and public holidays
  • This position also requires a Victorian Driver’s License, national criminal history check, Working with Children Check and a current tetanus vaccination.
