The Organisation

The Role
As the Senior Policy Officer, you will be at the forefront of SPA's policy and advocacy efforts. You will be key in investigating and analysing data, conducting research, and contributing to high-impact advocacy campaigns that influence policy and advance the speech pathology profession.
About You
You will have strong analytical and communication skills, your research and writing will be evidence-based and ethically sound, and you’ll be adept at collaborating effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. A deep understanding of the health, government and/or a peak body or member association landscape would be a strong advantage.
Duties
- Study and understand data related to speech issues and outcomes
- Provide current data and information for various policy documents and reports
- Examine government policies affecting speech pathology
- Use evidence to help create policies
- Work with members who know specific topics for policy work
- Help write reports and policies on important topics
- Attend meetings with the government and other groups
- Help and guide members and staff in advocacy work
- Plan and carry out campaign activities
Experience and Attributes
- Data Investigation - Research and understand data about speech issues and their impact
- Information Support - Provide up-to-date data, information, and research materials for various documents i.e policy papers, discussions, and reports
- Policy Analysis - Examine government policies, laws, and funding programs that affect speech pathology services
- Evidence-Based Policy - Use both qualitative and quantitative evidence to help develop well-informed policies
- Collaborative Work - Work closely with members who have expertise in specific areas to support policy and advocacy activities
- Document Creation - Assist in creating written submissions, reports, and policies on important topics
- Government Engagement - Attend meetings with government and non-government representatives to discuss our goals and concerns
