Resource Work Cooperative is a national leader in the waste minimisation industry. We operate the South Hobart Tip Shop and work with communities, businesses and local government to achieve viable, sustainable, best-practice waste minimisation, with a focus on re-use.

About the role

As a Scrutineer you work with a daily crew alternating between roles that include, accepting and rejecting donations, driving and salvaging from the landfill, operating POS including cash handling, and pricing and restocking items. 

The role involves being on your feet all day and moving between different areas of the shop, this a public facing customer service role. There is a need to be able to work under pressure and maintain pace while prioritise shifting tasks, we can have days that see over 300 customers through our site. We pride ourself on warm and friendly interactions with our diverse customer base who are also our community and we are their biggest fans.  

Being apart of a worker owned cooperative you will have a say in how the business operates and are involved in all decision making processes. 

This is a Casual Role and ideal candidates will be available 3 or more days per week. 

Employment requirements

• Full manual driver’s licence (no P plates). - Confident driving a manual vehicle. 
• White Card - or ability to complete one before commencing work. 
• Physical fitness.
• Commitment to Workplace Health and Safety.
• Available to work a mixed roster including weekends
• A pre-employment medical will be required.

Key selection criteria

• Experience in customer service and retail.
• Ability to work as a member of a team in a fast paced environment.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to show initiative and work independently.
• Experience in working in hazardous and/or outdoor environments.
• Experience in money handling, preferably in a retail environment.
• Experience in manual handling in a construction/yard environment.
• An interest in waste minimisation.

Desirable criteria

• Ability to attend evening meetings approximately once a month.
• Knowledge of co-operative and/or consensus decision-making.
• Any of: Workplace level 1 First Aid Certificate, Medium Rigid Truck Licence and/or Forklift Licence.
