The Red Rattler Theatre is calling for applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the role of Venue/Bar Manager to manage the venue through its transition to opening in a COVID-19 environment.

We are searching for a committed, proactive Venue/Bar Manager who enjoys working to support diverse performers and audiences in Sydney and beyond. In the changing post-lockdown environment, you will have a key role in creating safe and engaging arts experiences for the community. You will play a central role in achieving the Rat’s strategic goals, with a focus on day-to-day operations, working in a team, and ensuring that community members, staff, volunteers and performers have enjoyable and safe experiences in the venue.

The Red Rattler is an incorporated not for profit (NFP) arts organisation with deductible gift recipient status (DGRS) and charitable status.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the ‘face’ of the Red Rattler Theatre and upholding its standards and values in all of your dealings with its stakeholders, communities and suppliers.
  • Single point of contact for members, employees, volunteers and board of directors through the implementation of new policies and procedures that allow the Red Rattler to operate during the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Steer and champion the organisation through changed operating methods due to COVID restrictions.
  • Venue operations management, including opening/closing procedures, coordination with other staff/volunteers and event bookers.
  • Volunteer management, including training and scheduling of volunteers for events.
  • Inventory management, including monitoring inventory to ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained and ordering as needed in line with budget provisions.
  • Oversee cleanliness and maintenance of the venue in line with Covid-19 guidelines.
  • Assist in development of new policies and procedures to support the business transition through COVID-19 restrictions such as social distancing, safe cleaning practices and monitoring of patron adherence.
  • Ensure compliance with Red Rattler’s licensing and other regulatory requirements.
  • Provide exceptional service to patrons and event bookers, including updating and developing procedures and resolving complaints promptly and appropriately.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Red Rattler’s Safer Spaces policy.
  • Assist in the implementation of the Red Rattler’s eco-sustainability plan.
  • Participate in at least two monthly operational meetings.
  • Provide a regular (monthly) report.
  • Support and direct employees as required.

Skills/Experience

Essential

  • Hands-on attitude with a true passion for hospitality and the performing, music and artistic scene and culture in Sydney and broader Australia.
  • Motivation, drive, initiative and demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and independence.
  • Experience or interest in working in the community and not-for-profit space.
  • Previous Bar/Venue management experience including opening/closing requirements, security, setting up spaces, inventory and cash management experience, POS and budget management.
  • Previous experience managing other staff or volunteers.
  • Previous experience working with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and personal identities.
  • Commitment to foster a space where racism, homophobia, transphobia, sex worker phobia, sexism, hatred and vilification are not welcome.
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods and occasionally carry heavy items in a fast-paced environment.
  • Availability to work Friday and Saturday nights and flexibility to work on other nights and days, depending on event bookings.

Desirable

  • Current RSA.
  • Understanding of operations and culture within not-for-profit/volunteer-run organisations.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Volunteer management experience.
  • Interest in end-to-end event management.
  • Completed approved Manager and Licensee Training or willingness to complete
  • Detailed understanding of applicable regulatory requirements for The Red Rattler.

This position offers ongoing training and development, with scope to grow and develop in the area of event management and venue operations.

Hourly rate is $35/hr (depending on skills and experience) plus superannuation and leave loadings.

The 3-month contract may be extended depending on funding and COVID19 restrictions.
