Redfern Youth Connect (RYC) is a community-led organisation dedicated to supporting Aboriginal children, young people, families, and communities across Sydney. We provide culturally safe spaces, early intervention support, and meaningful opportunities for connection, learning, and empowerment. Our work is grounded in strong relationships, community voice, and a commitment to walking alongside young people as they build their strengths, identity, and future pathways.
At the heart of RYC are our core values, expressed through TRUST:
Teamwork
We work together with the community, partners, and each other to create safe, supportive environments where young people can thrive.
Respect
We honour culture, identity, lived experience, and the knowledge held within Aboriginal families and our communities.
Unity
We stand together with the community, fostering belonging, connection, and collective strength.
Safety
We prioritise physical, emotional, and cultural safety in every program, interaction, and decision.
Truth
We are honest, transparent, and accountable, ensuring our work reflects the real needs, voices, and aspirations of the community.
The Drop-In Youth Lead is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering community-centre-based activities that promote social participation, cultural connection, and community engagement. You’ll lead a small team of Casual Youth Workers, ensure safe and welcoming environments, and support young people and families experiencing or at risk of vulnerability.
This role plays a vital part in strengthening community connections, reducing risks for young people, and ensuring culturally safe, trauma-informed support is available when it’s needed most.
The ideal candidate is a culturally capable, community‑minded leader who is passionate about supporting Aboriginal young people and families. They bring experience in youth or community programs, can confidently supervise staff, and thrive in a busy, hands‑on Drop-In environment.
They understand early intervention, trauma‑informed practice, and the strengths and challenges within Aboriginal communities in the local Sydney areas. They communicate well, build strong relationships, and work collaboratively with partners, families, and young people.
They’re organised, reliable, and able to manage program logistics — from activities and safety to food coordination and reporting. They live the RYC values of TRUST: Teamwork, Respect, Unity, Safety, and Truth.
They’re also comfortable working Saturday evenings during school terms. Applicants also require a current, Valid Driver's License, WWCC and NSW Police Check.
Aboriginal people are encouraged to apply.
Cultural Connection: Engage with the Community, participate in community events, and grow through ongoing cultural learning opportunities.
Professional development: Access funded training in youth work, trauma‑informed practice, cultural capability, and other relevant areas.
Work–life balance: Enjoy a consistent weekday roster including one day off a week, with Saturday evening shifts required only during school terms.
Not‑for‑profit benefits: Take advantage of salary packaging options to boost your take‑home pay.
Supportive team culture: Work within an organisation guided by RYC’s TRUST values — Teamwork, Respect, Unity, Safety, and Truth.
Meaningful impact: Contribute directly to the well-being and growth of Aboriginal young people and families in a community‑led setting.
