About Open Place:

Open Place is a support service for Victoria’s Forgotten Australians/pre-1990 care leavers. The service coordinates and provides direct assistance to people who grew up in Victorian orphanages and children’s homes prior to 1990. The service helps people to deal with the legacy of their childhood experiences and to support them to improve their health and wellbeing.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Manager Open Place, the Redress Support Worker provides trauma- and care-informed support to Forgotten Australians applying to the National Redress Scheme for people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse. The role delivers client-centred assistance throughout the application process, engages with stakeholders and partner organisations, and undertakes regional outreach to ensure accessible, evidence-based, and outcomes-focused support across Victoria.

This role is located at Richmond and is full-time temporary until June 2027 working five (5) days a week. The base salary range is $98,027-$105,084 (pro-rata) per annum.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work or a related discipline, or demonstrated experience supporting survivors of institutional care and childhood trauma.
  • Experience providing trauma-informed and therapeutic support to vulnerable adults, with a strong commitment to empowering disadvantaged community members.
  • Specific experience providing therapeutic support to adult surtiviors of childhood sexual abuse.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, collaboration, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across a range of services and support networks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage sensitively with clients, manage complex conversations, and provide compassionate support in challenging circumstances.
  • Commitment to self-care and working in a collaborative team environment
