Our 3-2-1 Hybrid Working model

  • 3 days from anywhere in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand per week.
  • 2 days from an RACP office location per week.
  • 1 of the two days per week in office spent with your team.

About the Role

The Advocacy and Engagement Manager will provide advocacy and engagement advice and support to a range of key policy priorities for the College. The work will involve the development and execution of effective strategies and initiatives for advocacy, government relations and other external stakeholder engagement, working closely with the policy & advocacy leadership and staff, and external media advisors.

This will include strategic thinking and planning, facilitating relationships for the College with key stakeholders, the development of targeted materials, and effective utilisation of a range of communication and social media vehicles, including campaigns.

This is a senior role that will engage with and support staff members, fellows and trainees to contribute to and be a key part of the College’s advocacy and engagement work, harnessing their expertise, experience and profile within the policy and advocacy processes.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Develop well thought-out, relevant advocacy strategies, encompassing a range of activities such as digital communications, earned media and Parliamentary engagement, to advance policy objectives of the organisation. Note the College does not engage in ‘direct action’ advocacy, such as pickets and creative stunts.
  • Develop government relations and engagement strategies and planning to support advocacy activity
  • Guide and support development of briefs and other materials for Ministerial and MP meetings
  • Advise on strategies for engaging with elected officials
  • Develop and maintain relationships with counterpart staff for key elected officials
  • Monitor and advise on external developments in the health policy and political landscapes
  • Devise engagement with key external stakeholders to build successful coalitions

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience and proven success in developing and executing successful advocacy and engagement strategies, particularly in government relations
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement, relationship management and influencing skills, including with government and other elected stakeholders
  • Superior knowledge and understanding of government processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to develop a wide range of community, government and member-facing communications
  • An excellent understanding of evidence-based behaviour change approaches
  • Project management skills, including demonstrated ability to plan, implement, review and achieve project goals and objectives
