Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-Operative – Health & Wellbeing Services now has the following vacancy at our Shepparton site.

  • Seeking an Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) Support Worker
  • Full-time, 38 hours a week

This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designated position, classified under Section 12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunity Act (2010). This employment opportunity is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

About the Role

The Alcohol & Other Drugs Support Worker operates within a multi-disciplinary team, focusing on addressing the complexities of substance abuse and mental health. Their primary goal is to provide comprehensive support services, minimising harm and empowering clients through tailored interventions and best practices. Collaborating closely with partner agencies, they streamline access to services for clients and their families.

Central to their role is prioritising clients' physical health, cultural well-being, and active involvement in treatment. This entails conducting thorough assessments, coordinating services, and advocating within service systems to ensure inclusivity. With a proactive approach and strong advocacy, the support worker aims to promote healthy choices and achieve positive outcomes for individuals navigating substance use issues.

About You

To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • Tertiary qualification in AOD, Mental Health, Community Services, Social Work, or related field.
  • Understanding of Victorian Koori Community, society, culture, and related issues.
  • Experience in case management, including complex support needs.
  • Knowledge of alcohol and other drug issues among Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Proficiency in intake and assessment practices, including relevant tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients and service providers.
  • High level of computer literacy, including diary management.
