LawRight is the primary facilitator of structured pro bono legal services in Queensland. LawRight’s Community and Health Justice Partnerships (CHJP) operate at 10 locations, where staff and visiting pro bono lawyers collaborate with health and community workers to resolve the complex, intersecting problems of clients. The CHJP has an office in Cairns and works in close partnership with Anglicare NQ to assist people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

We are recruiting for a paralegal to support LawRight’s CHJP office in Cairns.

Duties include:

  • Maintain LawRight processes, databases and resources.
  • Support LawRight staff and volunteer lawyers.
  • Manage client intake.
  • Undertake case assessment.
  • Contribute to research and policy development. 
  • Participate in the general activities of LawRight.

Qualifications:

  • Senior law student.
  • Understanding of issues relating to homelessness and related disadvantage, or ability to quickly acquire it desirable.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills essential.

Classification:

Level 2, Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award

Benefits:

  • Leave loading and five weeks annual leave pro rata plus 10.5% superannuation.
  • Eligibility to salary sacrifice up to $35,000 (grossed up) of income to personal and entertainment expenses.

Term:

Part-time, subject to ongoing funding.
