ABOUT YOUR ORGANISATION

Since 2008 the Self Advocacy Resource Unit (SARU) has been supporting and resourcing independent Victorian Self Advocacy groups and organisations for people with Intellectual Disability, people with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and people with complex communication needs. Groups focus on local issues and speak up state-wide and national problems. Self advocacy includes peer support, skills building, leadership, activism, and working for change in systems and communities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Self Advocacy Group Projects Manager is responsible for managing a range of self advocacy group projects where AMIDA is the lead (Action for More Independence & Dignity in Accommodation). This includes the supervision and support of staff, ensuring that projects are well managed and achieving their goals, that reporting to funding bodies is timely and that on-going and sustainable funding is identified.

The Self Advocacy Group Projects Manager is 4 days per week (30.4 hours) until 30 June 2027.

Responsibilities of the role

  • To oversee all self advocacy group projects SARU is supporting, including via auspice arrangements and provide advice and direction to Project Coordinators and workers as required.
  • Look for opportunities to extend self advocacy group project work in line with group goals and SARU’s and AMIDA’s aims and objectives.
  • Ensure self advocacy group projects have in place evaluation frameworks and that timely and impact orientated evaluations are undertaken.
  • Responsible for the support and supervision of staff. This includes regular meetings to providing support and advice.
  • Reviewing project activities and to create and submit reports as required by funding agreements or oversee this process.
  • Oversight of self advocacy group project budgets and spending.

ABOUT YOU

  • You are experienced working with people with Intellectual Disability and Acquired Brain Injury. And you have a strong understanding of self-advocacy, disability rights, and community inclusion.
  • You bring proven strong skills and experience in staff supervision and project management.
  • Strong organisational skills are essential, as well as the ability to work independently.
  • A police check, and minimum of 3 COVID vaccinations.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS

SARU offers flexible work conditions and a supportive team environment. Although this is not a work from home position, up to 2 days per week can be done from home.
