Positive Powerful Parents (PPP) is a self advocacy group run by and for parents with Intellectual Disability. The group is led by a committee of management made up of parents with Intellectual Disability. PPP believe that parents with Intellectual Disability have their own unique way of parenting and with the right supports in place, most parents should be able to keep their children at home with them. PPP believe parents with Intellectual Disability have the right to access support. PPP also believe that when parents with Intellectual Disability become involved with child protection, they need to have plans in place to get the chance to be kept together.
The Self Advocacy Unit (SARU) supports and resources self advocacy groups in Victoria for people with Intellectual Disability, people with Acquired Brain Injury and people with complex communication needs.
The Positive Powerful Parents Group Worker role is 2 days per week (15.2 hours) until 30 June 2026.
SCHACDS Award Level 5
Responsibilities of the role:
You are experienced working with people with Intellectual Disability, including being confident and relaxed building rapport. You have an understanding of the issues and barriers faced by parents with disability. And you have a strong understanding of self-advocacy, disability rights, and community inclusion. Experienced in staff or volunteer management. You have the ability to create meeting agendas and resources in Easy English.
A police check, and minimum of 3 COVID vaccinations are required.
