The Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate Social Worker to join the team at Polaris Lawyers, supporting adult participants involved in class action proceedings against vitamin company Blackmores. You will be working collaboratively with a small and dedicated class action legal team to holistically support participants affected by B6 toxicity.

The role is a 2 day per week position and offers flexibility with hybrid working arrangements, in addition to a variety of other benefits including birthday leave, wellbeing allowances, and mental health leave days.

About the Position:

The purpose of this role is to provide a safe and facilitated space for participants to engage in peer support and connection throughout the class action, with particular focus on reducing social isolation. This role has been created in response to the needs outlined by our class action participants and lead plaintiff.

Reporting to our Senior Social Worker, the class action Social Worker will plan and facilitate 2 support groups per week for our registered class action participants.

Our support groups will run in 6-week blocks, with 2 weeks off in between to plan for future sessions and obtain rolling feedback from participants.

Supplementary to the support groups, you will also provide occasional 1:1 support for participants referred directly from the Polaris B6 team for referral support.

This role has an anticipated start date for May 2026, with support groups starting in June.

What You’ll Bring (Key Selection Criteria):

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work or counselling,
  • Minimum of 2 years' post-qualifying experience working in the field,
  • Proficient in using online systems such as Zoom and Microsoft Office programs,
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to create and facilitate online support groups,
  • Ability to manage sensitive information and disclosures from a vulnerable cohort of participants, building safety to enter and exit the group space,
  • Commitment to strengths-based, culturally safe, and anti-oppressive practices with individuals and groups,
  • Current AASW registration (or relevant registration body for other disciplines),
  • Previous work experience in integrative practices and/or legal settings is advantageous but not essential.
