About the role

This position is accountable for overseeing the continued development and implementation of a range of initiatives, strategies, and programs under the Aboriginal Workforce Strategy 2021 - 2026, and internal implementation of the department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Safety Framework.

The Principal Aboriginal Staff Engagement Officer will provide strategic leadership to deliver strategies to create a culturally safe employee experience, where individuals are valued for their cultural knowledge and lived experience.

About you

The successful applicant will have a track record of leadership and good people management skills. You will have a good ability to influence and negotiate for positive outcomes. You’ll have the demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with, and understand issues impacting on, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with an appropriate level of cultural understanding. You’ll have highly developed communication skills (interpersonal, written and verbal) and the ability to develop collaborative partnerships.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. A tertiary qualification in fields related to human resources or organisational development would be desirable.
  2. Demonstrated high level experience and understanding of working collaboratively with Aboriginal organisations and communities.
  3. A strong understanding of the Victorian health system, and knowledge of the department and its operating processes and information systems is essential.
  4. Strong critical analysis and reporting skills, high attention to detail, excellent writing skills and experience in managing stakeholder relationships.
  5. Demonstrated experience in Project Management, Communications & Stakeholder Consultation.
  6. Demonstrated written & oral communication skills, including interpersonal skills, capacity to work with a diversity of clients, including government departments.
