About The Role!

A key member of the Government Relations and Advocacy team, the Government Relations Analyst will play a vital role in supporting the Guild's advocacy and government engagement activities. The team leads the Guild's government relations, advocacy and stakeholder engagement work, and works closely with other teams across the Guild to develop and promote evidence-based policy solutions.

The position requires a highly organised individual with strong communication and relationship-building skills, and a sound understanding of the political environment. You will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of government relations activities, preparing high-quality briefings, reports and communications, and assisting with stakeholder engagement initiatives.

The Guild takes its advocacy work seriously – the team has had some significant wins over the last 12 months. It is a fast-paced role, working across a range of portfolio areas, with a focus on primary health. You will work closely with the Government Relations and Advocacy team to support engagement with MPs, Senators, political staff and other key stakeholders, helping to advance the Guild's policy objectives.

This role is a full-time, ongoing opportunity and is based at the Guild’s National Secretariat in Canberra.

About You!

  • You are someone who wants to make a difference through your work. You are passionate about advocacy, government relations and stakeholder engagement. You will have experience in a staffing role, government relations, policy, regulatory affairs or a similar environment, and possess strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • You have a robust knowledge of the mechanics of Federal and State politics and understand how government decision-making processes operate.
  • Your approachability and professionalism inform your ability to develop and manage relationships, particularly in a political context, is indispensable! It would be helpful if you had some solid political relationships already established.
  • Your approachability and professionalism inform your ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with MPs, Senators, political staff and a broad range of stakeholders. Experience working in the healthcare sector or a membership organisation will be highly regarded
  • You are a strong communicator with well-developed written and verbal communication skills and experience preparing briefings, reports, presentations and stakeholder communications. You have excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The role responsibilities of the Government Relations Analyst:

  • Develop and maintain ongoing relations with key contacts and support positive and effective relationships with MPs, Senators and political staff
  • Prepare political briefings, reports and presentations for National Council, Committees, the Executive Leadership Team and as required by Guild Branches, MP Liaisons and Guild members
  • Draft regular communications for politicians and key staff to inform on Guild activities and issues relating to community pharmacy, and develop tools to demonstrate concepts to MPs and their staff
  • Play a role in the development and execution of political engagement plans, grassroots campaigns and other GR activities
  • Monitor and analyse the impact and effectiveness of GR and advocacy engagements
  • Coordinate with the GRA team and Branches to organise pharmacy visits and other activities for MPs and Senators
  • Contribute to the development and execution of GR and stakeholder events and activities
  • Maintain the political database and electorate profiles
