Wheatbelt Family Therapeutic Services (WFTS) and Parents and Children’s Therapeutic Services (PACTS)

These two programs provides individual counselling to children, young people and adults who have experienced or are affected by child sexual abuse, including children and/ or young persons that have engaged in harmful sexualised behaviours.

The purpose of this role is to provide therapeutic interventions for children, young people’s and adults associated with the effects of trauma and abuse.

This role is offered on Fixed Term, on a Full-Time basis, at our Northam and Mirrabooka locations.

As a Child, Family and Community Counsellor, your duties and responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide therapeutic interventions for children, young people and their families who are impacted by child sexual abuse.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a range of counselling approaches relevant to children and or their families that have been impacted by sexual abuse and trauma including responding to concerning or harmful sexualised behaviours
  • Liaise and collaborate with agencies, schools, organisations as well as individuals and families for the effective operation of the service and best interests of Parkerville and its clients.
  • Use sound clinical skill and professional judgement to provide assessment and develop intervention plans for the child within the context of the family systems.

To be successful for this role, the applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • 4 years undergraduate or 2-year postgraduate degree in Health (Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Occupational Therapy) or continuing education and training in evidence-based practice including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy
  • Apply a range of counselling approaches relevant to children, young people and families impacted by sexual abuse and trauma.
  • Apply clinical skills and professional judgement to provide assessment and develop counselling/intervention plans for the child within the context of the family systems.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with therapeutic models of practice that build resilience and protective behaviours in children and families; group programs and/or working one on one and experience in the delivery of counselling and support services to children using a whole-of-family approach focusing on children’s mental health issues such as anxiety, bullying and social skills/peer-family relationships.
  • Demonstrated applied knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed practice as it relates to child development, adverse childhood experiences resulting in trauma and/or disordered attachment, and the child life contexts including family systems work.
