Palmerston Farm is a residential treatment service for people affected by alcohol and other drugs, located on a 10 acre property 30 minutes south of Perth. Our 43 bed facility offers medium to long term care based upon the therapeutic community (TC) model. A therapeutic community is a treatment facility in which the community itself, through self-help and mutual support, is the principal means for promoting personal change.
In a therapeutic community residents and staff participate in the management and operation of the community, contributing to a psychologically and physically safe learning environment where change can occur. Within a therapeutic community there is a focus on social, psychological and behavioural dimensions of substance use, with the use of the community to heal individuals emotionally, and support the development of behaviours, attitudes and values of healthy living. This is known as the “community as method”.
Our 24/7 residential therapeutic community in Wellard is looking for a counsellor/educator to join our team. The successful applicant will provide a professional alcohol or other drug (AOD) service, providing counselling and support to clients, families, other service providers and the local community in a culturally secure way.
Previous experience with working in a therapeutic community is desirable but not essential. The conditions of employment are attractive and include salary packaging benefits. The position is classified in Level 4 range of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Award 2010 dependant on experience and qualifications.
