OzChild, in partnership with AAFRO, is seeking an experienced and passionate Community Connector to join our Restoring Families Program in Shepparton.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with families, building trusted relationships, and supporting meaningful change at a grassroots, community level. You will work alongside Practitioners to help families strengthen their connections, access local supports, and build long-term capacity to thrive.

About the Role

As a Community Connector, you will provide intensive, outreach-based support to children, young people, and families experiencing vulnerability. Your work will focus on strengthening participation, inclusion, and connection to community.

Using a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach, you will:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with children, young people, and families
  • Support families to identify strengths, goals, interests, and opportunities
  • Connect families to education, employment, training, health, cultural, and recreational services
  • Assist families to build confidence, independence, and sustainable support networks
  • Undertake outreach, including home visits and community-based engagement
  • Work collaboratively with Practitioners and community stakeholders
  • Ensure culturally safe engagement, particularly with Aboriginal children, families, and communities
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes and contribute to case planning and review processes
  • This role requires flexibility, with service delivery occurring between 8:00am and 8:00pm to meet the needs of families.

About You

You are passionate about supporting children, young people, and families and have strong skills in engagement, relationship building, and community connection.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Youth Work, or a related discipline; or demonstrated experience working with vulnerable families
  • Strong relationship-building and engagement skills
  • Experience in community outreach, family support, or similar work
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

  • Full Time - Fixed Term 12 months role  
  • SCHADS Award Level 5 salary ($100,776.00), negotiable based on experience
  • Salary packaging up to $15,900 per annum (living expenses)
  • Additional salary packaging up to $2,650 (meals and entertainment)

Essential Requirements

  • Current Working with Children Check
  • National and International Police Check
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • A tertiary qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Youth Work or a related discipline; or demonstrated experience working with vulnerable children, young people and families.
  • Strong relationship-building and engagement skills.
  • Experience in community engagement, outreach, family support or similar services.
  • Understanding of culturally responsive and trauma-informed practice.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
