We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and committed person to fill the role of First Peoples' Climate Justice Lead.

The Role

The First Peoples Climate Justice Lead works within the First Peoples Program and with team members, OAU justice leads, partners, and allies, and collaborates with Oxfam Australia’s program, advocacy and campaign teams and the broader Oxfam Confederation, particularly those within the Asia - Pacific region. This position is responsible for overseeing the development, management and review of the First Peoples climate justice advocacy and campaign strategy and brokering access to technical and advisory support as required

The role engages in a range of organisational processes, including strategic planning, policy development, technical support to First Peoples Program, organisational learning, external engagement, fundraising and resource growth .

A little about you (the key selection criteria)

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Work with Oxfam justice leads to establish joint priorities and strategic collaborations.

  • Lead the First Peoples’ Program partnerships in relation to Climate Justice for First Peoples and ensure partnerships with key Indigenous organisations are based on mutual respect and are designed, managed, and implemented in a culturally appropriate manner.

  • Act as an Oxfam representative in engagements with political and private sector decision-makers, in the media and at public events – speaking on a credible basis to share expertise, deliver policy recommendations and leverage the Oxfam brand for change.

  • Facilitate agency-wide linkages and learning to enable advocacy and campaigning, and long-term development objectives as to be defined and implemented under the new OAU Strategic Plan and First Peoples Justice strategy.
