Youth Support Worker

Open House CIC

WHY WORK FOR US?

We are an organisation that has been delivering social support activities to adults and youth for over 53 years in the Banyule area.

As a Youth Support Worker, here is your chance to bring your experience and skills and join a dedicated team delivering youth-focused support activities to a diverse group of young people. These activities are run from our well-equipped community facility in Macleod as well as select times off-site. You will be making a difference to young people’s lives through engagement, fun activities and social connection as well as achieving personal satisfaction from the difference you make.

ETHOS AND VALUES STATEMENT

Consistent with many faith-based organisations our foundational beliefs underpin our identity and reason for service. Open House’s ethos and mission is based on our Christian principles and calling, to help those who are disadvantaged or in need (socially or economically excluded). Open House Board, staff, volunteers, and participants come from multi-faith and no faith backgrounds; mutual respect underpins our relations, and all are warmly welcomed.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

A committed and energetic Youth Worker to be part of a team delivering, and constantly developing programs and activities for young people in the Banyule community.

This position would be perfect for someone who has the qualifications and experience in the running of activities and programs for youth in a community setting, including NDIS participants.

You must have excellent people skills, be a “fun person”, be patient, show genuine care and enjoy working with young active people and those with mild disabilities.

Other skills such as a passion for ball sports, cycling, hands-on crafts and hospitality would be a bonus as we are also involved in barista training and outdoor activities for youth.

The position will initially involve 30.0 hours per week or 0.8 FTE, with additional hours subject to funding.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with experience in a similar role with the below attributes and values:

  • Exceptional people skills with the ability to “connect” with young people - we respect and care about all those that attend our programs, and we are looking for a warm, caring, and nurturing personality to show respect and empathy to our diverse group of young participants and help them to feel valued and have a place to belong.
  • Passionate about delivering quality outcomes - We want you to love what you do, as much as we do.
  • Ability to add value - help us further develop and grow the Youth Program beyond our current service offering by identifying opportunities and pursuing them.
  • Be able to work autonomously and as part of a broader team.
  • Good computer skills are essential as we maintain a comprehensive database and report to agencies on a regular basis.
  • Be able to obtain a Police check, WWCC and NDIS Worker Screening check.
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence.

Full details about the role are available by referring to the attached Position Description.

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Full support from the broader Open House team to help you further your career and skills in Youth Work.
  • A “fun” working environment.
  • Well-equipped premises in a great location with off street parking.
  • Remuneration will be paid under the SCHADS award depending on qualifications and experience.
  • We also offer salary packaging.

If this sounds like something you would want to be a part of, let us know.

Please attach a one page covering letter with your resume application outlining why you would like to work for us as well as how you believe that your contribution will assist us in delivering our Mission, Vision, and Values
