The New South Wales Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) in association with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation New South Wales Branch (ANMF NSW Branch) seeks a self-motivated Professional Officer (WHS) to join our Professional Services team on a permanent full-time basis.

In this role, you will undertake responsibility for:

  • Identifying current emerging WHS issues that may impact on nurses and midwives in their workplace
  • Investigating, undertaking research and analysis and determining the best outcome or position for our members
  • Representing the WHS and professional interests of members of the NSWNMA and ANMF NSW Branch at all forums attended
  • Lobbying appropriate agencies and stakeholders to promote the best interests of our members
  • Positively representing the values and principles of trade unionism

To be considered for this role you require:

Selection criteria

  • Demonstrated analytical and research skills
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of detailed submissions and report writing
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, policy development and broad research skills
  • A self-motivated person who is able to work independently as well as in a team and is able to meet deadlines and manage several issues simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Experience in and/or tertiary qualifications in relevant field
  • A clear understanding and commitment to trade union principles
  • Knowledge of contemporary nursing, midwifery and health industry standards and issues related to the WHS of nurses and midwives at all levels
  • Public speaking experience and presentation skills
  • Well-developed information technology skills with proven competence in the application of Microsoft Office
  • Commitment to the trade union movement
