Ngwala Willumbong Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation that is dedicated to delivering quality specialist Alcohol and Drug Treatment, Housing and Homeless and other services to meet the needs of Aboriginal people and their families. These services operate in greater metropolitan Melbourne and Mooroopna in rural Victoria

About the job

Provision of high quality treatment and support services, working collaboratively with the mainstream AOD Counsellor to support Aboriginal people who are affected by alcohol and/or other drug use. This will involve undertaking assessments, treatment plans, provision of psycho-social support, referring where appropriate and advocating on behalf of clients, alongside community development activities and completing the required administration and recording of records and case notes.

In addition to work with clients, this role contributes to the Pilot objectives of building cultural competency, clinical knowledge, community engagement and service delivery for all stakeholders.

About you – the key selection criteria

  • Case management skills – you will have experience working with Aboriginal people.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal abilities.
  • A collaborative approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Strong organisational abilities, willing to take initiative and work independently, and adapting to changing organisational needs.
  • A comprehensive understanding of alcohol and drug substance abuse.
  • Ability to effectively liaise and communicate with a wide variety of agencies and individuals at various levels.
  • Certificate IV in AOD, or ability to complete within 12 months.
