Newtown Neighbourhood Centre (NNC) are looking for an energetic and motivated community coordinator. This exciting role offers flexibility for the right person to be creative within our dynamic team in their approach to Community Development. We want someone who aligns and aspires to working in our vibrant community that is Newtown, engaging a wide range of stakeholders using proven models along with great intuition.

About the role

The Community Development Coordinator is a permanent part-time (3 days per week) position and will be working in a small but proactive team. We are flexible in what days of the working week the right candidate wishes to work. Our aims are to build a cohesive community, one that thrives, particularly young people and their families. We lead in a number of community development strategies across a range of community service partnerships.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated experience working with youth and families experiencing marginalisation and vulnerability.
  • Degree, certificate or experience in Community Services, Community Development or relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating community engagement and consultation.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of child protection and mandatory reporting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding of and commitment to social justice and community development.
  • Ability to work from trauma-informed, strengths-based and harm minimisation frameworks.
  • Ability to develop and manage effective programs, including design, delivery and ongoing review.
  • Ability to develop inclusive, safe and engaging spaces and a strong sense of community.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders, including other organisations and the community.
  • High level of initiative.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

  • Above award conditions (NNC provide a 35 hour full-time working week) and pay, plus salary packaging, additional leave, and flexitime
  • Classified at SCHADS Level 5
