The firm has a strong union base, including the two largest unions in New South Wales, covering approximately 250,000 union members. As a labour law firm, we provide specialised industrial and employment law advice and support to injured workers who have personal injury claims. The firm also provides advice and support for workers and their families in the areas of motor accident claims, wills and estates and conveyancing.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a solicitor, at Senior Associate level, in our team in our office at Waterloo for an experienced solicitor with demonstrated experience in Industrial and Employment Law and other workplace related areas. 

The role is union facing, providing high level strategic industrial and legal advice to union officers and elected officials.

In addition, you will be asked to act for individual members in relation to a wide range of employment related matters, which may extend beyond traditional employment law, such as discrimination and criminal matters arising out of employment. 

Importantly, you will have demonstrated experience in building and developing stakeholder relationships.

The role is a busy, challenging and exciting opportunity for the right person. There is a clear pathway for career advancement including to a Management position.

Criteria 

  • A demonstrated commitment to trade unionism
  • Admitted to practice as a lawyer in New South Wales
  • 5 + years PAE
  • Experience as a lawyer or industrial officer in a union or employment law practice is a requirement
  • An excellent understanding of relevant State and Federal legislation including – Industrial Relations Act (NSW), Fair Work Act, OH&S legislation, discrimination legislation.
  • Proven experience managing, litigating and settling complex workplace issues, including disputes, grievances, and investigations
  • Being comfortable with advocacy and public speaking
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a pre-requisite, with an eye for detail, as well as being highly organised with time management skills
