About the role

Help power our purpose. The National Centre of Indigenous Excellence is seeking a Finance & Payroll Coordinator to join our team in a full-time capacity. Based in Redfern NSW, this role is pivotal in supporting the financial operations and payroll administration of our organisation. As Finance & Payroll Coordinator, you will play a key part in ensuring accurate, timely and compliant payroll processing whilst providing essential financial support across the centre. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to an organisation dedicated to promoting Indigenous excellence and community wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

  • Processing fortnightly and monthly payroll for all staff members, ensuring accuracy and compliance with award conditions and legislative requirements
  • Maintaining and updating payroll records, employee files and related documentation in accordance with superannuation and tax legislation
  • Reconciling payroll accounts and investigating payroll discrepancies
  • Preparing and lodging payroll tax returns, superannuation contributions and other statutory payroll obligations
  • Managing leave entitlements including annual leave, sick leave, long service leave and other leave types
  • Providing payroll support and responding to employee payroll enquiries
  • Assisting with general accounting duties including accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliations
  • Maintaining financial records and supporting the preparation of financial reports and end-of-month processes
  • Liaising with external service providers including accountants, superannuation administrators and tax authorities
  • Ensuring compliance with workplace relations legislation and payroll best practice

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience working in payroll administration or a similar finance support role
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, superannuation requirements and workplace relations laws
  • Proficiency with payroll software and accounting systems; experience with Xero or similar platforms is advantageous
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in financial record-keeping
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles and practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Discretion and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • A qualification or diploma in payroll administration, accounting or related field is preferred
  • Familiarity with Indigenous communities and commitment to cultural sensitivity is valued
