About Ngaanyatjarra Council Group 

We are a multi-functional non-government organisation. Our purpose is to make a significant contribution and impact to the Ngaanyatjarra Lands to ensure the reliable delivery of services including housing, power, water and community engagement and development. Additionally, we provide health services to the community through Ngaanyatjarra Health Service. 

The Ngaanyatjarra Council Group represents the interests of around 2000 Ngaanyatjarra, Pintupi and Pitjantjatjara people, living in 12 communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia.

About the Opportunity:

We currently have vacancies for Store Managers based in our Jameson community in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. Applicants are welcome to apply in collaboration with a partner, as stores can be managed as a two person team. 

The Store Managers will be responsible for creating a positive and productive work environment, ensuring smooth operations, and driving the store's overall success.

As a store manager you will be responsible for the daily management of the store including customer service and satisfaction, maintaining stock and inventory, ensuring the store is well maintained.

Location:

Jameson or Mantamaru Community is situated 125 kms east of Warburton, Western Australia. 

Your day-to-day duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the store.
  • Managing the ordering and receiving of stock, accounting for timelines to ensure necessary stock is available when needed.
  • Maintain the proper filing of all invoices and orders received or raised by the store.
  • Receive and thoroughly check all goods ordered and received to ensure appropriate quality, quantity, and price.
  • Providing effective leadership, management, supervision and on the job training to Aboriginal store workers.
  • Implementing any policies of the Community Council which relate to the operation of the store.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Well-developed supervision, problem solving, conflict resolution and team building skills.
  • Good numeracy and written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use stock control, ordering and word processing computer programs.
  • Basic accounting and banking skills.
  • Ability to operate and maintain cash registers, store refrigeration and other equipment, and resolve minor faults.
  • Ability to ensure safe and healthy work practices, including knowledge of relevant Occupational Health and Safety principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with traditional Aboriginal people in a “dry” (no alcohol) community, where cultural norms and community development priorities may differ from your own. Patience, maturity, and a high standard of personal conduct is essential.
  • Experience in a remote environment is desirable however not essential.
