Caseworker

National Survivors Foundation

About the organisation

National Survivors Foundation (NSF) is a national, independent charity that exists to support Survivors of abuse to access justice, redress, healing and recovery.

Through trauma-informed casework and advocacy, NSF supports Survivors to navigate complex justice, compensation and redress systems, often over many years. We also work with governments, institutions and stakeholders to improve policies, programs and responses to abuse, and to prevent future harm.

Our work is grounded in respect for Survivors’ lived experience, informed choice, and sustained, ethical support. You can read more about NSF here.

About the role

The Caseworker supports and assists NSF Survivor clients through wrap-around, trauma-informed case management that sustains them as they navigate therapeutic, justice, compensation and redress pathways.

In this role, you will provide direct casework support to Survivors with diverse and sometimes complex needs, while also contributing your expertise to the broader casework team through strategic advice, shared problem-solving and continuous improvement of practice, systems and resources.

The role involves advocacy, intake and assessment, warm referrals, liaison with professionals and institutions, and assistance with processes such as redress, compensation and related applications. You may also attend meetings or mediations at a Survivor’s request and represent NSF at relevant forums or community events.

This is a 12-month fixed-term position, with the possibility of extension subject to funding and organisational needs.

About you

You bring a strong grounding in contemporary casework practice and a genuine commitment to supporting Survivors of abuse in ways that are ethical, trauma-informed and Survivor-led.

You have experience working with vulnerable people and are able to respond thoughtfully to complex personal, family and historical abuse contexts. You understand the importance of confidentiality, professional boundaries and reflective practice, and you are comfortable working within organisational policies, funding requirements and established practice frameworks.

You are someone who can build and maintain effective working relationships - with Survivors, colleagues and external stakeholders - and who approaches advocacy, referral and system navigation with care, persistence and respect.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Capability and experience suitable for the provision of casework support to vulnerable people
  • Strong knowledge of, or the ability to quickly develop understanding of, trauma-informed casework practices
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Good organisational and documentation skills, including the ability to manage case files and competing priorities
  • A clear commitment to NSF’s mission, values and Survivor-centred approach

Relevant tertiary qualifications are highly desirable, and eligibility to work in Australia is required. The successful applicant will also be willing to complete a Working with Children Check (or equivalent).

Salary and benefits

Salary is in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 4.2–4.3, depending on experience, plus superannuation and salary packaging.

Additional benefits include:

  • Flexible working hours (hours per week negotiable)
  • Partial work-from-home arrangements by agreement
  • A supportive, values-driven team environment
  • Meaningful work with tangible impact for Survivors and communities
  • Opportunities to contribute to service development and systemic advocacy
